Onebox provides a visual link that is great for list posts or when you want to feature a link prominently in an article.

This WordPress plugin uses a simple short code that will display the website’s title and favicon as well as the description and thumbnail for the specific page listed. It’s as simple as making a normal HTML link and infinitely more attractive. There are two ways to use the short code.

1. Insert the short code with only the URL parameter and let the plugin to the rest. Onebox will pull information from the meta tags of the web page specified to automatically fill in the page title, description and thumbnail.

use this short code: [onebox url="https://www.tineye.com"]

2. Alternately, you can customize the text by add the title and description parameters. In this case Onebox will pull the website name and favicon, then use your custom title and description.

use this short code: [onebox url="https://www.tineye.com" title="Easy Reverse Image Search" description="TinEye is a a quick and easy reverse image search. Google has a similar tool, but TinEye is better because it lets you sort by date and image size. This really helps when you want to find the original source of an image online."]

Best of all, the examples above show the style “out of the box” without any additional formatting on my part.

In addition to basic websites, Onebox has built-in support for links to the Google Play store, iTunes, Kickstarter and Wikipedia, just to name a few. Be aware that the developer has it coded to convert some links to affiliate links. As with other GPL plugins, you can fork the code on Github and change it to use your own affiliate code or remove this feature altogether.
